Pier Pals is a cozy idle fishing game that lives on your desktop, so the best habits are the ones that fit around your normal day. The game is playable without timed input and is marked as playable at your own pace, which means you can cast your line, walk away, and check back whenever you feel like it.

• Leave the game running in the background while you work or browse. Idle fishing does the heavy lifting, and you will keep collecting items over time.
• Let small milestones happen naturally. Miss a fish and you earn "Unlucky"; play for 1 hour and you earn "Just Vibing". The achievement list rewards casual play.
• Use your first session to learn the rhythm of catches before spending any FP. Watch how rarities appear and how often certain casts miss.
• Set small goals around journal entries."What's That?" unlocks at 15 entries,"Journal Keeper" at 35, and "Field Guide" at 80, so keeping pages filled matters for long-term progress.

Fishing and collecting tips

The journal is your main collection tracker. Every fish, junk item, crop, and bug you pull up with your rod can fill a page, and completing sets earns achievements at 1,5, and 10 completed sets.

• Rarity matters more than raw catch count.Rare items trigger "Lucky Cast,"Epic items trigger "Strange Tug," and Legendary items are tied to "Beginner's Luck," "Lucky Streak," and "Making My Own Luck."
• Aim for S grade items. "Picture Perfect" unlocks on your first S grade catch, so pay attention to the grade shown after each catch.
• Keep every junk pull at first. "Junk Collector" needs 25 junk catches, and "One Man's Trash..." requires discovering every type of junk, so junk is not wasted inventory early on.
• Do not ignore non-fish catches. "Accidental Farmer" needs every crop, and "Bug Net Not Included" needs every bug found with a fishing rod, so your rod pulls up more than just fish.

Catch fish of every rarity and grade, and track your collection in the journal.

• Use Mystery Boxes when you have spare FP. "Feeling Lucky?" asks for 10 Mystery Box purchases, and the random drops can fill journal slots you might otherwise grind for.
• Check the "Crab Club" collection before grinding rare pulls. "Crab Rave" rewards completing that set, so knowing exactly which crab items are missing helps you set a target.

Economy and progression tips

FP is the main currency in Pier Pals, and you will spend it on gear, cosmetics, pets, rides, and Mystery Boxes. Selling items is your steady income source:"Vendor" unlocks after selling 100 items and "Merchant" after 1,000.

• Sell duplicate junk and low-grade fish early to build a cash cushion. FP from sales adds up to milestones like "Nest Egg" at 25,000 FP and "Loaded" at 250,000 FP.
• Buy your first gear piece as soon as you can afford it. The "Hooked" achievement is tied to that purchase, and better gear should improve your catch consistency.
• Do not neglect cosmetics. Equipping a cosmetic earns "Dressed to Catch," and the "Wardrobe" and "Dressed to the Gills" achievements need 5 and 20 clothing purchases.
• Treat pets and rides as long-term goals. Equipping a pet gives "New Best Friend," and buying a ride gives "New Wheels," with "Petting Zoo" at 10 pets and "Gearhead" at 10 rides.
• Leveling follows naturally."Small Fry," "Making Waves," "Big Fish," and "Old Salt" unlock at levels 5, 25, 50, and 100, so focus on consistent play rather than grinding one fish.

Co-op tips

Up to 3 friends can join you on a shared dock for a full 4-player lobby. Co-op is the fastest way to stack catches, compare journal progress, and knock out chat and emote achievements.

• Invite friends early. Joining a friend's lobby earns "Pier Pressure," and fishing in a full 4-player lobby earns "Pier Group."
• Use chat while fishing. "Small Talk" needs 25 chat messages and "Social Butterfly" needs 100, so chatting between casts turns idle waiting into progress.
• Emotes count too. "Mood Setter" unlocks at 10 emotes and "Mood Maker" at 50, so react when a friend lands a Legendary pull.
• Compare collections in co-op. If one player is missing a specific crop or bug for "Accidental Farmer" or "Bug Net Not Included," a shared lobby makes it easier to see what is still worth targeting.
