Current Early Access scope

Pier Pals launched into Early Access on Aug 10, 2026 from developer and publisher Peng-O-Labs at a $3.99 price point. The game is a cozy idle fishing sim that lives on your desktop, so the current build is already built around short, low-effort sessions rather than a traditional progression grind.

What you can do right now in the Early Access build:

  • Cast your line and catch fish of every rarity and grade, from common catches up to Rare, Epic, Legendary, and S grade items.
  • Track your collection in the journal, which fills in entries as you discover new species, junk, and other catchable items.
  • Invite up to 3 friends to fish together on a shared dock, with online co-op that supports a full 4-player lobby.
  • Progress your player level with long-term goals ranging from level 5 up to level 100, plus earn FP currency by selling items.
  • Carry your save through Steam Cloud, use Family Sharing, and earn Steam Achievements across all your sessions.

Because the game promises "no clicking, no pressure," the Early Access scope is deliberately focused on idling and collection rather than reflex-based fishing mechanics. That design direction matters for planning ahead: future additions are most likely to extend the collection and customization side of the game, not rework the core loop.

Planned features and updates

Peng-O-Labs has not published a dated feature roadmap yet, so there is no confirmed list of update patches with specific release windows. However, the current build and its achievement list give strong signals about what is already in the works or planned next.

Content areas that already have systems or achievement hooks in the Early Access version:

  • Cosmetics: clothing items, hairstyles, pets, and rides, with achievements for equipping and buying multiples of each.
  • Gear and Mystery Boxes: purchase gear through the shop, and open Mystery Boxes, which points toward a long-term item sink and collection chase.
  • Collection sets: complete themed sets like the "Crab Club" collection, with achievements for finishing 1, 5, and 10 sets.
  • Journal categories: discoveries for fish, junk, crops, and bugs, hinting at future catchable categories beyond the launch fish list.
  • Social systems: chat messages, emotes, and full 4-player lobbies are already achievement-backed, so online co-op is a core pillar rather than an afterthought.

Treat the achievement list as a de facto roadmap. If an achievement exists in the launch build, the feature behind it is already functional, which means the next updates are more likely to expand those systems than introduce brand-new ones from scratch.

For planning purposes, expect future updates to expand journal categories, add more collection sets, and deepen the cosmetic, pet, and gear systems. The existing 55 achievements include long-tail goals like catching 25,000 total items and playing for 100 hours, so the developer is clearly building toward long completion sessions.

Developer communication and Steam News

Since the planned update schedule is not listed on the store page, the best source of roadmap information is developer communication through Steam News and developer posts on the Pier Pals store and community hub on Steam.

How to stay informed:

  • Follow the game on Steam so announcements appear in your Steam News feed and library activity.
  • Check the official announcements section on the store page for patch notes, update previews, and Early Access progress reports.
  • Watch the community discussions for developer replies, player feedback threads, and follow-ups on bug reports.
  • Revisit the Steam News page after major holiday events, since small-team Early Access titles often time their content updates around them.

Early Access expectations are straightforward: the current scope is a baseline, not the final feature set. Peng-O-Labs will likely adjust priorities based on player feedback and live collection data. If you are on the fence, the $3.99 entry price is low, and the existing co-op lobbies, achievements, and Steam Cloud support already make the current build a complete chill-out fishing loop while you wait for future announcements.
